What can I expect in the first therapy session?
The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and any concerns or questions you may have. It’s also a space for you to see if you feel comfortable with my approach. There is no pressure to share everything at once — we will go at your pace.
Is everything I say in therapy confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share stays between us, with a few legal exceptions — such as if there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, or if required by law (e.g., in cases involving child abuse). We’ll review confidentiality in detail during your first session.
Do you offer virtual sessions?
Yes, I offer both in-person and virtual therapy sessions. Virtual sessions are conducted through a secure, encrypted video platform that meets all privacy standards. You can choose the format that feels most comfortable and convenient for you.
What are your fees and do you offer a sliding scale?
Fees are discussed during the initial consultation. I do offer a limited number of sliding scale spots based on financial need. Please feel free to ask about this — accessibility is important to me.
Can I use my insurance or workplace benefits to cover therapy?
Yes, many extended health benefit plans in Ontario and Nova Scotia cover services provided by Registered Social Workers (RSW). I will provide receipts that you can submit to your insurance provider. It’s best to check your plan to confirm your coverage details.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
Therapy is a personal journey, and the length of treatment varies. Some clients come for a few sessions to work through a specific issue, while others engage in longer-term work for deeper exploration and change. We’ll regularly review your progress to ensure therapy is meeting your needs.
What issues do you commonly work with?
I work with adults experiencing a range of concerns, including:
Trauma and PTSD
Anxiety and depression
Self-esteem and identity struggles
Parenting
Grief and loss
Relationship and attachment issues
Workplace stress and burnout
Cultural adjustment and immigration-related challenges
How long is each session and how often will we meet?
Each session typically lasts 50 minutes. The frequency depends on your needs and preferences — many clients start with weekly sessions, then adjust over time. We’ll decide together what works best for you.
